Tufline Sleeved Plug Valves handle erosive and aggressive catalysts.

 Problem:

A southwestern chemical processor's facility produces acetic acid. The acetic acid is relatively mild and easy to handle. The problem is the erosive and aggressive catalysts used in the process. Valves had to handle this difficult catalyst at temperatures of 350 degrees F at pressures of 250 psi. Expensive zirconium and hastelloy valves were corroding and being replaced at an alarming rate.

 Solution:

Relying on the recommendations of the Tufline Sales Engineer with help from the Tufline Technical Support Group, Tufline Sleeved Plug Valves were installed. To better handle the difficult catalysts, the valves had a special proprietary fluorocarbon sleeve.

In some portions of the process, there was concern about the release of fugitive emissions during thermal cycling. For these areas the Tufline XP model of the sleeved plug valve was recommended. This valve has a patented shrink-seal lip that tightens the stem seal during thermal cycling. The Tufline Sleeved Plug Valve has no cavities where aggressive flow can accumulate and attack the valve body.

 Results:

The Tufline valves provide much longer service life with greater savings in valve costs and expensive downtime.
